When replacement beats repair

Repairs make sense until they do not: guttering that cracks as it is touched, joints failing along the whole run, cast iron that is more rust than metal, or a system that was simply never big enough for the roof area. At that point a new run is cheaper than the third repair visit. A typical Teesside semi needs 20 to 30 metres of guttering: £500 to £1,100 all-in for most houses, priced per metre in writing before anything comes off the wall.

Half-round, deep-flow or ogee

Half-round suits most properties and is the default. Deep-flow carries roughly half as much water again: the right call for large roof areas, steep pitches, and anywhere that overflowed in the last proper storm, common on the bigger detached plots of Eaglescliffe and Wynyard. Ogee suits period frontages where the profile is part of the look. The survey measures your roof area and matches the system to it; rainfall does not care what the guttering looks like.

What a proper installation includes

Old guttering and failed brackets removed, fascias checked while exposed (rotten timber gets flagged, not guttered over), new brackets at maximum metre centres, falls set to run to the downpipes, every joint sealed, and the system water-tested before the ladders come down. Colours beyond white, black, brown, grey, cost a little more and take a few days longer. Downpipes replaced as part of the run are priced per metre in the same written quote.
